The TikTok #challenge

“It’s the Instagram for the mobile video age — in a way that Instagram itself won’t be able to reproduce, having already aligned its community with influencers and advertisers.”

In these “uncertain times,” one thing you can count on is a surge of people discovering social media. TikTok gave birth to the 15-second amateur music video and some of the best dance #challenges we’ve seen to date, but will it thrive like Instagram or shutter like Vine? With upwards of 800 million active users worldwide (Datareportal, 2020) there are plenty of reasons to become part of this new platform.

TikTok has taken off with GenZ and teens but really sets itself apart from other social platforms because of its accessibility and authenticity. In a world of Pinterest Homes and Instagram Moms, we now have raw creativity, and it’s FUN! There is a surge of 30 and 40 somethings getting on TikTok to help fill time with COVID-19 stay at home orders throughout the country.

“What helps TikTok stand out among the competition is that it’s more of an entertainment platform, instead of a lifestyle platform. And what makes it so attractive is that practically anyone can become a content provider because of the simplicity of using the app. That’s why it appeals to so many content creators around the world.”

Adults are getting wise to TikTok.
